Welcome to Institute of Advanced Study in Education
The Government College of Teacher Education, Kurnool, proudly stands as one of the oldest and most esteemed teacher training institutions in the Rayalaseema region. Established in 1952 as the Government Training College, it was founded to address the regional need for well-trained teachers, especially in Southern Andhra Pradesh. This historic institution, now in its 72nd year, has been at the forefront of preparing skilled educators dedicated to providing quality education to students across the state.
Originally operating within the Government Town Model School in old Kurnool, the college has since evolved significantly. In 2022, the institution was transferred from the School Education Department to the Higher Education Department and placed under the administrative control of the Commissioner of Collegiate Education. Today, the college offers a two-year B.Ed. program with an intake of 100 seats in full-time mode and serves as a Learner Support Centre for B.Ed. distance learning under BRAOU, Hyderabad. The institution was also instrumental in training Telugu Pandits from 1992 until the government discontinued the program in 2021, and it continues to support in-service teachers through specialized programs.
Located centrally in Kurnool, the campus offers modern facilities that enhance both student life and learning. Key amenities include an auditorium, cafeteria, gym, well-equipped labs, library, and sports facilities. The college is well-connected by road, rail, and air, making it easily accessible to students from various parts of Andhra Pradesh.
